Italy, France, Germany and many other nations have argued that the origin of laces belongs to them, but none of them has ever been proved. It is only clear that lace has been playing an important role in the fashion world since the 16th century. Back then lace textile has been considered as an expression of art because it was made by hand.  Lace textile was produced with only two tools – needle and bobbin. This process made it unique and extremely expensive.

As a consequence, even the cheapest clothes can be embellished with lace nowadays, although the quality lace will always look better. One thing is clear – lace is one of the most sophisticated and elegant element in fashion until today.
